I am a 2001 and 2003 graduate of Tech! My husband and I married in 2006 and he, the wonderful man he is, agreed to take me to the Miami/VA Tech football game in Miami for our HONEYMOON!!!
My husband's brother and girlfriend graduated from Miami...which made for an even more fun game!
GO HOKIES!!!!!

When those horrible shootings happened last year, I, of course, was deeply saddened! First, and foremost, for the victims and their families. But then, I didn't want my school to be remembered as "that place where those shootings happened". I didn't want VA Tech to be dubbed this "place", much like Columbine is. It was so strange to see places and buildings that I knew being flashed across my TV screen like it was part of some war movie.
But then this remarkable togetherness happened among everyone who is, or has ever been, apart of VA Tech. Our "Hokie Pride" became this uncontrollable entity that lit up restaurants, stores, other schools all across the country. Even with our troops half way around the world. I was, and am, so proud to be a Hokie!
I have had people ask me how being a Hokie is so different than being, (from another school). I reply, "It’s because "Hokie" doesn't just refer to those who have attended or taught at Tech, it is everyone". Anyone is welcome to be a Hokie...even if it's just because you are a sports fan, or you visited the campus, or your Dad went there. ANYONE IS WELCOME TO BE A HOKIE! The more the merrier!
I thank God everyday for my experiences in school and for the lifelong friends I have from Tech. The 8:00 a.m. walk across the Drillfield in 15 degree weather and 45 mile an hour winds, the 3 a.m. fire drills in Slusher Tower, Dinner at Bogen's or Macados, the fall colors, the huge Christmas Tree at the end of The Mall, and, of course, FOOTBALL! All of these things, and countless others, are what make VA Tech so special.
So today, I will dress in my Tech colors, and remember "the 32" who we lost way too early. But, I will also remember all the good times I had and all of my friends that will stay with me for the rest of my life, because I am a Hokie for life!
GO HOKIES!!!

My name is Greg and I am currently a student at Virginia Tech from Chesapeake. I was on campus the morning of the 16th and would go on to witness and outpouring of love unimaginable in the following days. The most amazing story about those weeks starts on the 13th though. I came home the weekend of the 13th to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. I left quite early in the morning and was tuned into the station that plays on 94.9 here in Blacksburg. It’s a station called Star country. That morning during the stations “warm and fuzzy” moment I heard a story about eagles. The story goes that when storms arise eagles will not actually fly away but to the storm. They find a tree to perch in and allow the storm to roll in. As the winds begin to blow harder the eagle uses the wind for lift to carry it over the storm. The story goes on to tell how God does the same for us “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.” Isaiah 40:31
I didn’t know at the time how prevalent this story would be in my life in the coming days. My storm was just around the corner. I would like to thank the people of Hampton Roads and around the world for their outpouring of support. You have been my and the Hokie Nations wind and helped carry all of the Hokies over this storm. Every time I see a “Lets’ go Hokies” or “We will prevail” sign I’m encouraged.
I think most of the Hokie Nation would agree, I have never been more proud to be a Hokie. We will neVer forgeT; we will prevail.
Thank you,
Greg James

Hey everyone on the morning point!
I'm a high school senior and will be attending VA Tech next year. I believe that while the events of April 16, 2007 will always be present in everyone's minds, we can’t let what happened that day affect how we think about VA Tech as a school, and as a community. The faculty, staff, and students of this wonderful school should not be judged by the actions of one individual, but as a whole. In making my decision about college, I did not let these events discourage my wanting to go to this school. In fact, they encouraged it. Such a welcoming, close knit community that can withstand such a disaster and still triumph is exactly what I want to be a part of. I am very proud to say that I will be joining this group as a Hokie next year.
GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to say that one year ago today we mailed in my daughter Ana’s acceptance to VT!
My son, Will, is an alumnus and there was no question where she wanted to go. We all feel at home at Tech.
Thanks,
